Tara A. Schwetz, PhD
Dr. Tara Schwetz was the NIH Deputy Director for Program Coordination, Planning, and Strategic Initiatives, where she provided oversight for the development of several national programs such as HHS Data COUNTS, the CARE for Health clinical research network, and the All of Us Research Program. Tara previously served as NIH Acting Principal Deputy Director and NIH Associate Deputy Director, leading large-scale programmatic and operational initiatives. While in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy as the Assistant Director for Biomedical Science Initiatives, Tara led the effort to stand up the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H). She started her career in government as a AAAS Science and Technology Policy fellow. A biophysicist by training, Tara studied cardiac ion channels and G-protein coupled receptor signaling in the pancreatic islet to better understand arrhythmias and diabetes.
